Grosvenor Crescent Mews

This narrow, multi-storey property in the heart of London, sandwiched between Green Park and Hyde Park, just off Park Lane, boasts a bevy of stylish neighbours. The tall narrow properties are a signature look of modern central London and with clever designing are transformed into light beautiful homes.

This project encompasses the use of a host of IQ products, first of all multi-level rooflights. Starting at the roof the frameless glass rooflight allows light to enter the building, illuminating the central windowless stairwell of the property. On the below floors internal floor lights create a light well through the property, filtering light into the lower floors. These lights were specified as 30/30 fire glass to act as a fire barrier to protect the essential escape routes in the event of a fire, this glass will give the occupants the safety of 30 minutes fire insulation and 30 minutes fire integrity.

With tight London properties, access is sometimes a puzzle to solve. Access to install the Roof Light was made using a crane and specialist glass lifting equipment from IQ Glass, lifting the individual glass pieces up onto the multi storey roof. With over 60 live jobs in London currently IQ Glass and our installers are well prepared for the challenges that inner city construction works can sometimes offer.

On the rear face of the building a small roof terrace was installed with an IQ Glass flush walk on rooflight. The rooflight glass is finished as translucent to assure privacy into the room below whilst allowing ingress of light from above.

The entrance to the roof terrace is accessed through IQ’s Minimal Windows Sliding door system. With this narrow opening available you don’t want the majority of the space filled with frame. Using the Minimal Windows system gives minimal visible framing, meaning the allowance for maximum glass in the tight space.

These Minimal Windows were specified to slide either way rather than having one section fixed, this allows the client to change the position of the opening leaf, giving flexibility in the internal furniture placement and flow design. As always, the Minimal Windows system is a highly engineered sliding system, with flawless sliding action across the stainless steel running track. The system is secured with Minimal Window’s standard two point lock, securing both panes in place securely and discreetly.

Adjoining the Minimal Windows sliding system is a shaped section of glass, framed to match the surrounding items, fitting snugly into the sloped wall angle.

"The slimline frame, again, allows maximum light ingress"

The attached room is then glazed on a further side, in aluminium casement windows. The slimline frame, again, allows maximum light ingress whilst the high end manufacture and engineering makes the operation of the vent sections effortless and easy.

The Contracts Manager Richard commented on the job and on the IQ installation team. “One of the things we are most proud of at IQ Glass is the quality of our service and installations. That is down to the high quality products we use and also our fantastic installation team. Working in London comes with its own challenges and on the day of the crane lift the weather wasn’t fantastic, but our guys got the job done, and got it done well.”
